The Whale | Movie Review

A24 does it again. I recently went to the movies to watch “The Whale” starring Brendan Fraser, and Sadie sink. The film is about an overweight online teacher (Fraser) who is on the verge of death, trying to rekindle the relationship with his daughter that he lost. Sadie sink plays his daughter, who is a rebellious, misunderstood teen.

The message in the film was very powerful and moving. It made me feel things I have never felt before while watching a movie! The acting was amazing, Sadie sink played her role so well & especially from Fraser, who does a beautiful job showing so many range of emotions & how much he loves his daughter despite all her anger. The story is so touching that I had a tear in my eye when it was over. The movie deals with themes like grief and loss in a way that is honest—and also very sad.

It was very emotional because it shows how much people care for each other and how much we can learn from each other. The main character in this movie has a lot of self-doubt and does not think he deserves to live because he feels as though he has failed as a father. It also shows how much his daughter cares for him even though she did not want him around at first. She did not understand why he had abandoned her but when she finally understood why he did what he did, she saw how much it hurt him and realized that they needed each other more than anything else in this world.

With the film offering a lot of messages such as love, death, depression, and religion, my favorite most of all, was HONESTY in the film. People do not tend to be honest as they need to be. Sometimes they like to sugarcoat stuff or not tell the entire truth. Brandon’s character appreciated the honesty, even if it hurt. I think we could learn a lot from this movie about telling people what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear or what we think they want to hear. It is easier on us and makes us feel better about ourselves than being honest and real with someone else who may be hurting or sad inside themselves as well.

The movie has many underlying themes that I believe will resonate with most people. For example, it shows the value of family and how we can change our lives if we really want to. In addition, it shows how most people view others based on their outer appearance rather than who they really are inside. Finally, it shows that even though relationships may be broken or lost at some point in life, they can be mended with time and effort from both parties involved.

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie but I just truly did not like the ending. I wasn’t expecting the movie to end so abruptly as it did & it kind of threw me off from the emotional roller coaster this films out you through. I needed more from Sadie’s character because of the emotion she brought to the final scene. Absolutely great. As a father, it definitely made me feel a lot of emotions.

The Whale is a film that I would recommend to anyone who enjoys a good story. It has a lot of great messages, and the acting is top-notch. My final rating on the film is an 8.5/10. If you watched the film, leave a comment & let us know what you think ! Thank you for reading 🙏
